Even though the Switch is only a couple months into its lifespan, the system is quickly establishing itself as a haven for indie gaming. Some of the bigger indie titles are also getting physical releases as well, including The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ and Cave Story+. In a recent interview with USgamer, Azure Striker Gunvolt developer Inti Creates mentioned a similar desire to get the upcoming Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack a physical release in North America.
“We have a physical version confirmed for Japan,” said Takuya Aizu, CEO of Inti Creates. “It’s going digital for America. We’re looking to work with different publishers to get a physical release for America and Europe, but at the moment nothing is set.” Aizu went on to mention that, since the Switch does not feature region-locking “if you buy the Japanese version, you can play it in English.”
It’s interesting to see developers embrace the Nintendo Switch’s lack of region-locking. Even if Inti Creates fails to secure a local publisher, fans of physical releases can still import the game and play it in English! That’s a very nice feature that was seemingly unfathomable last generation.
The Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack was previously published on 3DS by Yacht Club Games. Perhaps they will once again pick up the game’s publishing duties! Stay tuned to Nintendojo for more information as it develops!
