The Return of Star Wolf
At the time Assault was released, we hadn’t seen Star Wolf in a game for 8 years! But when Fox and friends traveled to the Sargasso Space Zone to hunt down Pigma Dengar, they ran into the great mercenary team once again. An amazing orchestral arrangement of the classic Star Wolf theme rang out as Wolf, Leon, and newcomer Panther flew into the battle with their shiny new Wolfen ships. What followed was a great dogfight, and Star Wolf would play a big part in the levels to come. Wolf even ended up showing a more honorable side in the game, and he even lets Fox ride on the wing of his Wolfen! Assault greatly fleshed out the characters and was a true return to form for Star Wolf.
Sacrifice of the Great Fox
In Star Fox Assault‘s final mission, the shields on the Aparoid homeworld leading to the lair of the queen seemed nigh impenetrable. After Fox destroyed several defense modules, the shields only got stronger! When all seemed lost, the Star Fox flagship, the Great Fox, came careening into the planet’s atmosphere, with ROB and Peppy at the controls. The duo rammed the mighty Great Fox into the shields, giving Star Fox just enough time to slip into the planet’s innards. However, the crushing force of the shields destroyed the Great Fox. ROB and Peppy seemed done for, and we were made to believe this until the very end of the game. Star Fox’s two supporters were alive and well, having escaped at the last moment in an emergency pod. The power of friendship can overcome even death.
