As reported, this week’s episode of Pokémon Smash brought with it a major announcement, revealing another brand new Pokémon from the upcoming Pokémon X and Y versions.
Details on the new monster are currently scarce, but fans will notice it bears a striking resemblance to Mewtwo, the powerful Psychic-type from Pokémon Red and Blue. Many have speculated that the new creature is an alternate form of the legendary Pokémon (a theory which seems to hold some weight considering it is connected to the latest Pokémon film, Extremespeed Genesect: Mewtwo Awakens), but Nintendo has yet to confirm the link, treating the announcement on the official Pokémon webpage as if it were a new Pokémon entirely.
Could this be a new Mewtwo form?
The company has also released the first in-game footage of “Newtwo” in action, showing off several of the monster’s attacks. The clip can be seen below:
Nintendo certainly knows how to keep an air of mystery hanging around Pokémon X and Y; we still have yet to learn what type the recently-announced Sylveon is, nor do we know what the new “battle mechanic” mentioned in the games’ debut trailer will be. This new Pokémon is just the latest mystery surrounding the upcoming 3DS titles, which are slated to launch worldwide this October.
