News Desk Masthead - Iwata

During a Chotto Nintendo Direct, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced that a new set of six prepaid cards will be released in Japan. These prepaid cards can also be used as AR (augmented reality) cards for 3DS together with a new, free downloadable software called Isshoni Photo.

Isshoni Photo can be downloaded by scanning the QR code on these six special prepaid cards. Each card features a prominent Nintendo character: Goomba is on the 1,000 Yen card, Mario the 2,000, and Peach the 3,000. Koopa, Luigi, and Bowser make up the second trio. Players can take photos of these characters using Isshoni Photo, interact with them, and watch them interact with each other!

It is unknown whether these cards will leave Japan. I, for one, really want to see more AR card action. Imagine a full-fledged trading card game using AR cards. That sounds at once nostalgic and forward-looking!
