Wii U owners know just how empty those long periods between Nintendo’s big releases can be. Luckily, the eShop always provides a huge variety of games for every taste. 2015 is still here and kicking, so let’s take a look what kind of “smaller” titles will be keeping us entertained in between Nintendo’s big games.
(This list contains games expected to arrive in 2015, but in certain cases, the release date is not very solid.)
Typoman
For those seeking some smart twists on the puzzle-platforming formula, Typoman should be a game to look forward to. The main gimmick revolves around word play, so you have to traverse a world made of words and symbols, and combine letters with each other in order to progress. It’s one of those games that require a lot of patience, so make sure to get yourself in the mood before jumping into this one.
Soul Axiom
From the creators of the strange and unique horror game Master Reboot comes a new title called Soul Axiom. Judging by what we’ve seen so far, the new game seems to be very similar to Master Reboot in terms of gameplay and visual design, but I don’t mean that as a negative thing. Let’s just hope the developers fixed the framerate since that E3 Nindies demo.
Rive
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Rive is a game the could not be more different from its predecessors. Who would’ve thought that the creators of the cute Toki Tori series could do such an aggressive and explosive 2D shooter/platformer? Action fans, keep an eye on this one.
Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows
While not exactly a full new game, Plague of Shadows is shaping up to be a worthwhile continuation of the main title. Shovel Knight is absolutely excellent, but it gets old after a couple of playthroughs. With Plague of Shadows, there’s finally a reason to go back once again.
The Swindle
Curve Digital provides a lot of high-quality releases for Nintendo platforms and The Swindle is no exception. We recently previewed this steampunk stealth game, so if you want to read our expanded thoughts, you can click this link.
I’m excited for a number of these. Been following Fast Racing Neo’s development since before the launch of Wii U so it will hopefully deliver on the F-Zero Front. It certainly looks the part. The publisher Shin’en has worked almost exclusively with Nitendo platforms. Maybe depending on how this game turns out they could have a go with the iconic franchise itself?
Others I’m looking forward to are: Shovel Knight DLC, Gunman Clive, and the hopefully soon to be released Octodad
Great list. Will definitely be picking up a few of these. Thanks for mentioning the mindbenders of innovation and intensity, Treasure. They deserve any and all the praise they get.
I’m not sure how this didn’t dawn on me before, but I just realized that Fast Racing Neo is F-Zero GX meets Ikaruga.
…as if I didn’t want the game enough already. :^)
I wonder what other GameCube titles could be combined to great effect? Metroid Prime and Mario Strikers? Oh, ouch… too soon.
