With Super Mario Maker‘s release date just around the corner, more details have started to emerge regarding the Wii U title. We know that the game will feature a number of pre-made levels available on-disc, but it looks like one of gaming’s most respected developers will have a level of his own included in the game to challenge players!
According to a recent video posted by Nintendo France (translated by Perfectly Nintendo), Rayman series creator Michel Ancel has made a level that will be playable in Super Mario Maker. Nintendo France caught up with Ancel to discuss the design process, his history with Mario and more. While the video mirrored below is in French, it’s worth a watch just to see a legendary developer brainstorm and design a level.
The Rayman franchise has provided gamers with plenty of challenging platforming moments throughout the last decade, but the titles have a much different style from the Mario games. It will be very interesting to play Ancel’s take on a Mario level! Ancel also had many nice things to say about the upcoming game, stating that Super Mario Maker will help people gain an appreciation for what happens behind the scenes of each level and may even inspire some players to pursue game design outside the title.
Hopefully Super Mario Maker will live up to such lofty praise when it debuts on September 11.

How about making an exclusive Wii U game that actually stays exclusive next, Michel?
This is such a neat idea. I hope more well-known developers contribute levels to this game. I’d love to see what kind of Mario level Yuji Naka would make.
Good idea! I’m looking forward to this game anyway, but the possibilities of famous developers, or anybody making interesting levels is exciting. Now, if they only would announce the bundle with the Amiibo, if they haven’t already.
