3. Samus Aran’s Gunship, from the Metroid series
Samus, as elite bounty hunter and officer in the Galactic Federation, needs a vehicle that strikes fear into her opponents, and nothing is better equipped to do so than her Gunship. Identified as a Hunter-Class ship, it bears a striking resemblance to her helmet, albeit a massive version, presumably as a warning to anyone who tries to cross her.
Equipped with twin missile launchers, and powered by something called Fuel Gel, the Gunship is capable of atmospheric flight, and even the impressive feat of intergalactic travel. It is registered under Samus Aran’s name, and is also controllable via an interface on her arm-cannon, so it logically follows that only she can control it, even when she isn’t even on board. Not only is it pretty swish, but it’s also capable of replenishing Samus’s Energy Tanks and Ammunition, which is a very welcome addition when your preferred work environment is hostile alien planets.
One interesting thing to note, though, is that the appearance of the ship changes slightly from game to game, but despite these obvious changes is apparently the only space-faring vessel ever registered under her name. This may mean that she regularly pimps her ride, or each incarnation of the ship is salvaged from parts of the previous (which technically means it’s only partly the same ship), and we all know how much she loves destroying things. Also intriguing is the change in colour scheme in Metroid Fusion, which complements her new suit. Perhaps the fact that it changes appearance with her suit, as well as it’s connection with her armour means that there is some sort of symbiotic connection between the two?
