And now for the top spot. The pole position. The vehicle that rises to the top. The one that leaves all others in its wake, and other such vehicular references. The Comet Observatory is a space station that comes into orbit above the Mushroom Kingdom every 100 years, proving that it is extremely durable, seeing as it has become the basis for the Star Festival. It’s pilot/monarch is Rosalina, who has an enigmatic past (but might come from Earth) and, judging by her presence on the Observatory, enhanced longevity. Of course, she may or may not be the embodiment of the spirit of the cosmos itself, so that is to be expected.

The Comet Observatory is home to the Lumas, a race of creatures who can transform into planets or galaxies as they see fit. This sort of makes their adoptive mother Rosalina in fact be God, seeing as she is protector of the Lumas, and possibly the universe itself, and her children are the very fabric of planetary systems. By extension, the Comet Observatory could be Heaven, the place in which the creative forces of the universe reside.

It is powered by the force of a star, and with no weapons or defensive capabilities it is truly a craft of peace, something which so few entries in this list have been, which is a welcome relief. Unfortunately it was destroyed by a black hole, but reformed when the Lumas recreated the cosmos. Which is good, because it has the most wonderful music in any Mario game, that just makes you want to sleep and have lovely dreams of rainbows and cuddly toys. As the cradle of life, and the birthplace of the universe, there can be no other vehicle worthy of the top spot.

Disagree with this list? Were you upset that not a single Mario Kart vehicle made the cut? Saddened by the very loose definition of a vehicle? Let us know in the comments below!
