1) Ecruteak City/Cianwood City (Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver)

And so here is what I consider to be the best Pokémon town tune. This was a lovely tune in its 8-bit glory in Gold/Silver with its understated and romantic sound. However, it was HeartGold/SoulSilver that just amped up this tune, and oh man did they really deliver on this one. The way they made it sound so unmistakably Japanese is just so beautiful. The shamisen introduction in the beginning of Ecruteak City and the subtle influences of what could be a taiko drum just really brings that flavor that really gives the region an ancient Japan kind of feel. I also like the subtle differences between the two city tunes with instrumentations and some slightly different notations. Ecruteak gives off a regal sound to it, while Cianwood sounds the way I would imagine a seaside ancient Japanese town would if it could have a soundtrack.

Anyway, that’s my list of the Top Ten Pokémon Town Tunes. Agree? Disagree? Think I forgot one (which is entirely possible) that should’ve been in there? Feel free to comment and let me know!
