Smash Bros. Melee vs Smash Bros. Brawl

Super Smash Bros Brawl masthead
Improvement or a step-too-far? Hardcore Smash fans agree to disagree. (Okay they don’t “agree” to anything.)

When Super Smash Bros. Brawl came out in 2008, the arguments automatically started. Which game is better — Melee or Brawl? Melee, being the second edition of the Smash Bros. series, was a big hit. The combination of the variety of characters, the mechanics of gameplay and the super fun multiplayer mode made this a game that could be very hard to top. The argument is basically about whether Brawl ruined everything or not. Brawl added even more characters, brought in the magic of Wi-Fi play, and the single player mode was more of an adventure game than its predecessor’s single player mode. Melee fans believe that Sakurai went too far with the changes and that the should’ve just kept it the same game, but put it on Wii. Brawl fans enjoy the new changes and think that Melee fans are overreacting and usually throw in the terms “Snob, elitist, douchebag fans” Of course those names get even more derogatory but I don’t feel comfortable going into the more derogatory words. The argument is something that you see commonly and wouldn’t be thought of as being that bad of an argument. But it’s the sheer passion and ridiculousness that  puts it on this list.
