Koopalings vs Bowser Jr

In Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World, we were introduced to the Koopa Kids. They were seven of Bowser’s children who acted as bosses for each of their respective worlds that they took over. They were Morton Koopa Jr, Wendy O. Koopa, Lemmy Koopa, Ludwig von Koopa, Roy Koopa, Iggy Koopa, and Larry Koopa. They were around for only these two games before they disappeared for several years. Over 10 years later, we are introduced to Bowser Jr — Bowser’s youngest child and the heir to the throne — in Super Mario Sunshine. When he came into the limelight and was starting to get some exposure, fandom went nuts. People started to whine about the Koopalings and why they weren’t being paid attention to. Some folks believed that Bowser Jr. was a fine addition and while he didn’t really have the greatest debut, he wasn’t that bad. Others think he’s the worst thing that ever happened to the series and pine for the days of the Koopalings. Both sides may have won out when The New Super Mario Bros. Wii came out, but that only fanned the flames even more. This is an example of the nostalgia filter tearing fandom apart. The Koopalings were great in their two games, but it doesn’t mean that Bowser Jr. is the worst character ever put into video games– let alone Nintendo. Besides, we all know that Navi is the worst.
