Shulk’s Smash Bros. reveal wasn’t the only Xenoblade-related news to come from today’s Nintendo Direct broadcast– Nintendo also announced that the original Xenoblade Chronicles would be ported over to the New Nintendo 3DS.

According to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, the company has long been considering bringing the epic Wii RPG to 3DS, but was unable to due to its lack of power. Thanks to the improved CPU of the New Nintendo 3DS, however, Nintendo was finally able to port the game over to a handheld without sacrificing any of its scale.

Iwata also stated that a number of other titles are in development exclusively for the New Nintendo 3DS.

Did you miss out on Xenoblade Chronicles the first time around? Would you purchase the game again on the New 3DS? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!

As excited as I am for this news, and as much as I would like to get Xenoblade 3DS, I can’t justify doing so. First, I’ve already put in 200+ hours on this game, and I don’t have enough time for all the games I want to play, let alone enough time for all the 100+ hour RPGs I want to play, let alone enough time to replay 100+ hour RPGs. Second, I still have my Wii and its save file available, and while it would be beyond dull, and have a negative effect on my combat skills, to thoughtlessly mowing down every enemy I came across, if I do replay the game I’d really need to do NG+ and its quicker pace to justify doing so.

On the other hand, a Xenoblade skinned New 3DS would be awesome…

My biggest problem is I just got the XL. If the New 3DS does show up in the west, we’ll probably see it sometime middle next year (most likely between March and June). It’s hard to justify buy another system that early.
On the bright side, I do have more time to spend on my 3DS than I do any of my home consoles. I never did finish Xenoblade, it’s hard to bring myself to play any Wii games anymore. A portable version would be just the thing to get me to play.

If Nintendo offer a discount for those of us who already own a 3DS, I will be getting this without a doubt. I’ve been holding off on getting an XL, so it is perfect for me.

If I had just got an XL? I also don’t know whether I would upgrade again so soon. It depends on how games make use of its unique features I suppose!
