Earlier this month, Bandai Namco announced Disk Wars Avengers: Ultimate Heroes, a 3DS title based on the anime that recently hit Japan. Over the weekend, a new trailer for the title surfaced, and with it, new gameplay details have emerged. The anime clearly takes some cues from Pokémon, as a group of young children attempt to rescue popular Marvel Superheroes, such as Iron Man and Captain America, that have been confined inside disks by Loki. We’ve mirrored the video below.
The game looks to be a pretty simple brawler, with players able to switch between heroes on the fly. So far, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Spider-Man, The Hulk, and Wasp have all been confirmed as playable characters. Since the show has a bit of a “collection” aspect, it will be interesting to see if players can attain more hero disks as the game progresses. The trailer also shows off some of the redesigned anime versions of familiar Marvel villains such as MODOK, Loki and the Red Skull.
Right now, it’s hard to say whether or not Disk Wars Avengers: Ultimate Heroes will arrive outside of Japan. The cartoon that the game is based on has yet to reach our shores, and with the main characters already appearing in cartoons such as Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers Assemble, the show might not be an easy sell. Still, Marvel’s characters, the Avengers in particular, are quite popular these days. Perhaps we’ll see the game appear without the show to accompany it.
