This Thursday, a new update for Mario Kart 8 will appear on the Nintendo eShop. For better or worse, the most talked-about part of the update is a trio of karts based on real-life Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Over the weekend, someone using Ubisoft’s official Twitter feed added his two cents about the update. The tweet has since been removed, but we do have the content below:
“Not sure I like the @MercedesBenz cars in #MarioKart8. Kinda breaks the magic. Be careful #Nintendo @NintendoAmerica”
While the tweet’s content was fairly innocuous, Ubisoft did issue an apology shortly after. Nintendo and Ubisoft’s relationship has made quite a few headlines since Wii U’s release. Ubisoft has had a few instances where it’s earned the ire of Nintendo fans, not the least of which occurred last week when the company announced that it has no plans to release Mature titles on Wii U after Watch Dogs. Ubisoft is hardly the only company to take issue with the promotion between Nintendo and Mercedes-Benz, however. Since the announcement, a number of pundits have taken aim at Nintendo over the inclusion of the cars. Considering that Ubisoft is no stranger to in-game advertising of its own, it does make it seem a bit disingenuous for the company to throw stones.
What do you think of this week’s upcoming Mario Kart 8 DLC? As usual, let us know in the comments below!

Personally, I can’t wait for the DLC. But this Tweet hardly sounds like an insult. People are entitled to their opinions, but they can be so critical of others’ expressing them.
