During today’s Nintendo Direct broadcast, Nintendo announced that it would be releasing two new 3DS models in Japan later this year.
Dubbed the New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS LL (XL as it’s known outside of Japan), the revamped handhelds will boast a number of improvements over the original versions. Along with larger screens and colorful face buttons (based on the color scheme of Super Famicom’s controllers), the New 3DS systems will be even more powerful than previous incarnations and will feature a second pair of shoulder buttons, along with a second mini control stick on the upper right-hand corner of the touch screen.
The New Nintendo 3DS and New 3DS LL models will go on sale in Japan on October 11 and will retail for 16,000 and 18,800 yen, respectively. A Western release for the handhelds has yet to be announced.
