My Nintendo News is reporting that Kensuke Tanabe, a developer who worked on recent 3DS title Paper Mario: Sticker Star, has claimed that Shigeru Miyamoto vetoed the addition of extra story elements to the game.

This was based on research undertaken on Club Nintendo members that showed only 1% of them found the story of Super Paper Mario interesting. However, part of the reason the game has received less favourable reviews than its predecessors is its perceived lack of character development or storyline, and the wisdom of only conducting research on one group of people and their opinion on one game in the series should be questioned.

Did you miss the addition of story elements in the most recent Paper Mario game? If so, which story would you say best exemplifies what Paper Mario is about? Let us know in the comments below.
