Yesterday, Capcom and WayForward announced that the visuals and music won’t be the only things getting a fresh coat of paint when DuckTales Remastered debuts this summer. The story will also get a bit of an overhaul.

In an interview with Siliconera, Capcom producer Rey Jimenez announced that the game will sport a new tutorial level that explains why Scrooge’s nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie have been kidnapped. He also gave new details regarding some other story tweaks that fans should expect to see.

“In the original NES version, you go in the UFO to find the remote control to open the area to get to the boss. You don’t really know why. The game doesn’t explain it well,” Jimenez said.

“In our version, before you even get to the UFO you see Fenton who is Gizmoduck and he gets kidnapped by the UFO. You’re going into the UFO to save him and find all of the parts in Gizmoduck’s suit. Once you get that all together and Fenton turns into Gizmoduck he’s going to escort you back to the area where the door was and he will blast everything out of your way and then blast the door out.”

“In the NES version, you fight a big rat and it didn’t explain why you’re fighting a rat on the moon. That’s explained in here because there are rats they’re experimenting on and you let them loose and that becomes the rat down there. Also, how does Scrooge McDuck breathe on the moon? We explain that as well,” added Jimenez.

According to Jimenez, the game will feature roughly 30 percent new content. The updates are meant to make the game more accessible for fans that never played the original classic.

DuckTales Remastered is scheduled for release this summer on Wii U, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

You’re fighting a rat on the moon because we all know the moon is made of green cheese. I guarantee NO kid was wondering WHY any of this was happening. Too busy playing one of the best NES games of all time to care.
