Months ago, it was rumored that Mario Kart 8 would be Nintendo’s first real attempt at extending the shelf life of a title through downloadable content. While this week will see the game’s first real update, fans should mark their calendars, as November and May will see two massive updates for the kart-racing title. For the first time ever, characters and locales from outside the Mario franchise will appear! The news comes from Nintendo’s UK online store, where extensive details and pictures were provided. The packs will retail for £7, and will be broken down as follows:

November Pack:

  • 3 Characters: Cat Peach, Link, Tanooki Mario
  • 8 Courses
  • 4 Vehicles

May Pack:

  • 3 Characters: Dry Bowser, Isabelle, Villager
  • 8 Courses
  • 4 Vehicles

Additionally, players that purchase both packs will receive eight differently colored Yoshis and Shy Guys for use as racers. With 16 courses being added to the game, the grand total of courses will have risen by an impressive 50 percent. We’ve mirrored images from Nintendo’s UK website below!

Let us know if you’re excited about… oh, who are we kidding? Tell us how excited you are about these new additions to Mario Kart 8 in the comments below!

This is freaking amazing. I thought my sister was joking when she told me; went online, nope, actually happening. Not just karts, but characters AND tracks, and some Nintendo cross-pollination sprinkled in for good measure? There DAY ONE, bro.

And that F-Zero stage! Seriously, just make a Wii U game already. And Wario Mines?? About to get STUPID CRAZY with the antigrav on that!

This is Nintendo hungry and desperate. They’re making gutsy, fun choices that really make you excited to own a Wii U right now. This is fantastic.

It just brings a smile to my face that Nintendo can make a simple DLC announcement like this, a DLC ANNOUNCEMENT, and it gets people super excited. I really, really hope that with Smash, MK8, and all the other great games already on the console, that this winter sees massive holiday sales. Nintendo might have stumbled with Wii U out the gate, but there’s so much good going on right now, it deserves to be played more.

I read this news and checked the calendar…Nope, not April 1st.

Can’t wait to find out about the 16 new tracks. 16 NEW TRACKS!

Like Marc said: “hungry and desperate.” Either that, or this is just how a video game company celebrates its 125 anniversary!

Its nuts how much content you get for so cheap! 16 courses, 8 new vehicles and six new characters?! Capcom would call it Ultra and charge $30 for it as a standalone! Between this, Hyrule Warriors, and SB, i’m sorted out!

Don’t know if any of you saw this but when I went to download the new Mercedes DLC the US Eshop confirmed that we are gonna get those DLC’s as well and since I had ten dollars saved up thanks to the Digital Deluxe Promotion I got I figured go ahead and get the Hyrule DLC while the getting is good.

I’ll more than likely get the Animal Crossing one in the near future but for right now I’m just happy getting the new Hyrule DLC bought and paid for.

Also after test driving the new Mercedes cars…they’re fast as hell y’all I don’t even need a mushroom power up to catch up with anybody (at least not while playing online)
