An edition within an edition! It’s edition-ception!

A little less than a year ago, Nintendo released Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch. It was a delightful port (one that some thought would never happen in the first place), but you know what they say about great art—it’s never really done, simply abandoned. And Nintendo isn’t abandoning Xenoblade Chronicles X just yet, as the company chose to surprise-launch Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition — Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. Yes, that’s quite a mouthful. Here’s the announcement trailer:

So, what makes this Switch 2 version different than the one on the original Switch? Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition — Nintendo Switch 2 Edition “adds up to 4K resolution at a smooth frame rate of up to 60 fps when playing in TV mode and up to 1080p and up to 60 fps in handheld mode.” A pretty game gets even prettier, it seems. If you’re interested, you can download the game right now, and if you already own the Switch 1 version, you can download the requisite Switch 2 iteration for a nominal fee via the upgrade pack. If you’d prefer a physical version, it will be available at retail starting April 16, 2026.
