Nintendo’s live stream Switch presentation was filled with many surprises, but the biggest (certainly in terms of scale) was Xenoblade Chronicles 2, a new role-playing epic from Monolith Soft.
Few concrete details were revealed about the title during last night’s broadcast, but its debut trailer did give fans a tantalizing glimpse at some of the sights that await. Like its predecessors, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will feature a breathtaking, sprawling world to explore, though this time the game eschews the more realistic character models employed by the first two Xenoblade titles for a decidedly anime aesthetic. Likewise, it is still unclear if Xenoblade 2 will be a direct continuation of the first title or a spiritual successor in the vein of Wii U’s Xenoblade X, but the debut trailer briefly introduces fans to an entirely new cast of characters. We’ve embedded the video below.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is currently slated for a 2017 release. Are you excited to delve into a new open-world JRPG? Let us know in the comments!
