As someone whose father introduced him to the epic badassery of ’80s and ’90s Arnold Schwarzenegger action films from a young age, Terminator 2: Judgment Day was a regular fixture in the Marrujo household. The movie remains a favorite to this day, but sadly there aren’t all that many good Terminator games out in the wild. That might soon be changing with the release of Terminator 2D: No Fate. Take a look:

Launching on September 5, 2025, Terminator 2D: No Fate is a retro-style 2D shooter and brawler set in the events of James Cameron’s 1991 film. Players will alternate between the present day and the post-apocalyptic future inhabited by Skynet and its AI-powered killing machines. The T-800, Sarah Conner, and John Conner (the adult version in the future) are all playable throughout the adventure, with emphasis on different skills and strengths between each character.

Besides looking astonishingly faithful to Terminator 2, the game is gorgeously rendered in a beautiful pixel art style. Meant to evoke the feeling of old school arcade games from back in the day, Terminator 2D: No Fate is shaping up to be one of the can’t-miss titles of 2025. Developed by Bitmap Bureau and published by Reef Entertainment, Terminator 2D: No Fate will sport multiple endings, so come fall players will have a chance to write the future for themselves when it comes to Nintendo Switch.
