The beat marches on! According to Famitsu, Namco Bandai is bringing its drumming rhythm series to Wii U with the unsurprisingly named Taiko Drum Master: Wii U Version. It’s coming out in at least Japan, with no release date yet. I wouldn’t hold your breath for a Western release, as the original PS2 Taiko Drum Master was the only console release of the series to ever leave Japan. Still, the new Wii U game will be compatible with the awesome drum accessory used in previous games for Wii, or it can be played with the Wii U GamePad.

The new game will also introduce a mode called “Baton Change” which features co-operative play. Namco is also teaming up with Nintendo to add some content like Mario & Luigi masks, as well as a playable Pokémon Battle Medley. Hey, maybe it won’t ever come out of Japan, but we can hope can’t we? We never get the chance to play Pokémon themes on Taiko drums…
