Switch fans that have been looking for an official statement about the successor to the console finally have something concrete, as Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa took to the Nintendo Corporate X page to discuss the timeframe for an announcement of Switch 2 or as he puts it, “We will make an announcement about the successor to the Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year.”
This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct…

For Nintendo fans, this is as close to an actual announcement as possible, without actually announcing the hardware. According to the above tweet, Furukawa mentions that the announcement will happen, “within this fiscal year”, which means we should see an announcement sometime from now until March of 2025, as Japan’s fiscal year runs from April 1 to March 31.
In addition to the timeframe, Furukawa confirms an announcement will not occur at Nintendo’s June Direct. When that announcement does come, we will keep you updated.
