Square Enix is bringing Project Triangle Strategy to Nintendo Switch in 2022, but in the meanwhile fans can at least get a sample of the game right now. Yes, despite being two years away from launch, fans can immediately download a demo of Project Triangle Strategy from the eShop. Square seems to be doing its homework with this one, so if you’d like to contribute to the game’s development (there will be a feedback survey down the road, too), feel free to give the demo a shot.

What is Project Triangle Strategy? Other than a game that will really benefit from a name change? It’s a tactical RPG carrying on the aesthetic that Square has utilized in games like Octopath Traveler, although Project Triangle Strategy seems to be taking it to the next level. This is particularly true of the use of terrain. Here’s a synopsis of the game from Nintendo:

Finding the best location in turn-based battles can tip the tide of combat in your favor. Position units on higher ground to take control of the battlefield and gain the advantage with increased range. You can also flank enemies on both sides, then strike from behind for a powerful follow-up attack. Elemental chain reactions are also an important part of combat. For example, use fire to melt icy terrain, then use lightning to electrocute it. Push the enemy into the electrified water to see sparks fly!

In the trailer, it’s clear that fire can spread and be incredibly deadly if employed correctly. The story revolves around a conflict called the Saltiron War, with an array of characters to choose from. This is shaping up to be a potentially very intriguing release, which will make the wait to 2022 all the harder. What do you think of Project Triangle Strategy? Will you download the demo? Tell us below and online!
