Whether it’s a free bobblehead, a keychain, or maybe an art book, it’s always nice when a retailer gives gamers an extra incentive to plop down their cash a little sooner. Some preorder bonuses can be a bit more… unique, however. Take, for example, Best Buy’s Mario Kart 8 promotion. US residents that preorder the Wii U racer can snag a $10 Gas Card for free! Technically, the $10 Mastercard can be used on pretty much anything, but advertising a gas giveaway with a racing game is a much more enticing narrative for shoppers.
Best Buy’s promotion is certainly a bit strange, but it does fit in with the interesting way Nintendo seems to be promoting the latest Mario Kart title. Fans may remember the recent deal Nintendo made with motor oil company Pennzoil to advertise the upcoming Wii U racer. It seems like Nintendo is looking at different ways to promote the title, and that’s certainly a welcome sight considering Wii U’s struggles. Hopefully we’ll see Nintendo continue to promote its titles in unique ways. It certainly can’t hurt to inform more people about what Wii U has to offer.
To get the free giftcard, fans will have to register a code by June 30. Does this make you more inclined to pick up Mario Kart 8 at Best Buy? Let us know in the comments below!

Pretty sure I’m going to want Mario Kart 8 on my Wii U all times. I don’t imagine such offers apply to download codes?
No, unfortunately it doesn’t:

“While supplies last. Offer available for physical game (SKU 8400089) only.”
I had been planning to download the game as well, which I usually do with any of the big Nintendo-published titles.
Hmm…
