During today’s Pokémon Presents broadcast Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company, announced that Pokémon Unite will be coming to Nintendo Switch and mobile. The online team battle game is being developed in conjunction with Tencent Games’ TiMi Studios, which is part of the larger Chinese conglomerate that has worked with Nintendo to bring Switch to the region. Take a look at the game in the trailer, below:

Here is how The Pokémon Company describes Unite:

Pokémon Unite is the first strategic Pokémon team battle game. Players face off against each other in five-on-five team battles. During these battles, players will cooperate with teammates to catch wild Pokémon, level up and evolve their own Pokémon. They will need to defeat their opponents’ Pokémon while trying to earn more points than the opposing team within the allotted time. Pokémon Unite will be free-to-start.”

And here’s a bit more from Unite’s official website:

“In this game, players face off against each other in 5-on-5 team battles. During battles, players will cooperate with teammates to catch wild Pokémon, level up and evolve their own Pokémon, and defeat opponents’ Pokémon while trying to earn more points than the opposing team within the allotted time.

Pokémon Unite introduces a new kind of Pokémon battle—one that requires teamwork and strategy. It is simple and yet full of intricacies waiting to be unpacked. Be sure to check out the video on this page for the first footage of Pokémon Unite’s gameplay.”

As a free-to-start title, it’s likely Unite will offer some form of microtransactions once it finally releases. There’s no word on when Unite will come to market, but when we learn the time frame we’ll be sure to let you know. In the interim, tell us what you think about Pokémon Unite in the comments and on social media!
