While the popularity of Pokémon Go has definitely cooled off since its hype-filled release, the game has never had trouble making money. Case in point, August of this year was hugely successful for the Niantic developed mobile game, raking in its highest earnings since those halcyon days back in 2016. How successful was it? $176 million successful.

According to industry tracker SuperData, this makes Pokémon Go the top-earning mobile game of the month, and they largely chalk the success up to Niantic’s push of special, in-game events. If that was enough to push the game to such impressive numbers in August, it will be interesting to see how the introduction of Pokémon from Black and White impacts revenue for September.
