One of the minor details mixed in with the announcement of Nintendo’s New 3DS were the special features the system’s extra control stick would bring to certain games. One example of this was Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, which would use the second stick for “C-Sticking,” which allows players to execute smash attacks with a single flick of the stick. This immediately posed questions about the Circle Pad Pro, a 3DS peripheral that added a second stick to the original 3DS models. According to this accessory compatibility list on Nintendo’s site, don’t expect that kind of compatibility. Super Smash Bros. for 3DS is not listed under CPP games, and this could be a sign that Nintendo is starting to abandon this maligned peripheral.
I like the CPP for games like Resident Evil: Revelations and Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D, but when I moved up to a 3DS XL I never bothered to buy a CPP XL since very few games were using it. It’s sad that Nintendo won’t be adding compatibility for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS since some CPP owners may have used the device, but it might be smart of the company to finally let the peripheral die.
