Super Smash Bros. 3DS Demo Arriving September 19

Some lucky fans will have it today.

At Nintendo’s Treehouse summit today, the company announced that a demo is on the way for Super Smash Bros. on Nintendo 3DS. The demo will be available to the general public on September 19, but select Club Nintendo platinum members have received a download code today! The selected members seem to be at random, so members will want to keep an eye on their inbox.

Nintendo held a similar promotion earlier this year for Tomodachi Life. Platinum members that receive download codes are also receiving three additional codes to pass along to friends. A number of Nintendo fans have taken to Twitter to make their extra codes available to fans, so if you weren’t selected, that may provide an extra opportunity.

Super Smash Bros. arrives on Nintendo 3DS October 3. Did you receive a download code for Super Smash Bros.? Let us know in the comments below!

I got a download code! :^) I’ve never been picked for one of Nintendo’s select-few-platinum-members promos before, so it felt pretty wild to get that email while watching their treehouse stream.

The demo doesn’t feature online mode, so I haven’t been able to try multiplayer yet. It is limited to 2-minute versus matches with five available characters, but it’s more than enough to put to rest any lingering doubts. I wasn’t sure Smash would work on a small screen and without a big full-motion analog stick. But I am now.

One thing that’s not obvious in all the videos is just how smooth the game is! Perfect 60fps, and somehow the system’s low resolution doesn’t seem low at all. I remember thinking something similar with Link Between Worlds.

    Ok, back to playing. :^)

I’m going to be one of THOSE people, for which I apologize, but would you be willing to share one of those extra codes? My email is thomasjace@outlook.com if you feel so kind.

I’m afraid I gave my extra codes away to real-life pals as soon as I got ’em. Sorry everyone! I’d give everyone here codes if I could. Drinking buddies before forum friends, ya know?

But, you’ll all be playing the demo soon enough, which only will make you more impatient for the full release. (That, I’ve decided, is the demo’s only fully-implemented feature. :^)

I got download codes and shared them with some nieces and nephews. Played some multi-player with them. Can’t wait till Oct 3rd to play the game.

Now that Thomas13 is hooked up (see above), here are the remaining two early access codes I was sent.

Enjoy all you fellow Smash Bros!

Just a heads-up for anyone who hasn’t gotten codes yet but met the three criteria, I talked to a Nintendo Customer Service Rep today and all the codes have been sent out now, but there were some problems when they sent them in batches with some people getting left off. If you meet the three criteria, you can call Nintendo Customer Service and they’ll work with you to get your codes sent to you. Now I continue to refresh my inbox…
