Another firmware update has come to Nintendo Switch ahead of the Switch 2 launch on 06.05.25. Version 20.1.0 of the software is not quite as beefy as the 20.0.0 update from back in April, instead going back to an old, beloved standby in the world of Switch firmware: stability. Well, that and a couple of other things, to be fair. Here are the full patch notes:

Ver. 20.1.0 (Released May 27, 2025)

  • Visual updates have been made to the Parental Control settings.
  • The sound that plays when Nintendo Switch Online is launched from the HOME Menu has been changed.
  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.

The update also points out that if you’re planning on doing a local system transfer between your original Switch and a Switch 2, your Switch 1 will need to be rocking the Version 20.1.0 update for it to work. If you’ve yet to, simply connect your Switch to the Internet and get to downloading.
