When Nintendo announced its plans to make Virtual Console games playable on the Wii U GamePad (for a small fee), they forgot to mention one detail: when you download the updated game optimized for Wii U, your old save file will not be compatible with it.
Of course, one doesn’t have to upgrade all of his or her titles. Those of us with well-developed farms in Harvest Moon can still transfer the data over as it is and play from the Wii Menu. Then again, there is always the option to simply start over again. Personally, I’ve gone through Ocarina of Time so many times I don’t think doing it again will really make that big a difference.
My farm, on the other hand…

Andy – If we upgrade our virtual console games to the Wii U by paying the $1.00 or $1.50 do we still have the option of playing the game in the original Wii mode? Or will the upgrade move it from the Wii channel to the main Wii U menu? I haven’t been able to find an answer.
