Scans of the latest issue of CoroCoro are just starting to trickle in, and with them come some interesting new details on Pokémon X and Y.
No doubt the biggest news to come from the magazine is the reveal of four brand new Pokémon, who will be making their debut in the upcoming 3DS games. These four new critters are the Grass-type ram Gogoat, the Japanese robin Yayakoma, the Electric/Normal-type lizard Elikiteru, and a Fighting-type panda called Yancham. The magazine also confirms that Pokémon X and Y will be set in the Karos region. Miare City, the European-like town seen in the games’ debut trailer, will be at the heart of the region, just as Castelia was in Unova. According to CoroCoro, Miare is so large that players will be able to ride Gogoat to navigate it, using the Pokémon’s horns to steer through the city.
In addition to that, the magazine confirms that players will be able to customize their avatars slightly in Pokémon X and Y, choosing between three preset hair and skin combinations for both the male and female heroes.
It is likely that the announcement scheduled to take place on May 19 will be the public debut of these four Pokémon, as was the case with Mewtwo’s transformation last month, but we won’t know that for certain until next week. The Pokemon games have needed customizable avatars for some time now. Small step, but I’m happy to see some new options in that regard.
