Kirby and the Forgotten Land was one of the major bright spots in Nintendo’s 2022 lineup of software. A stirring 3D adventure, Forgotten Kingdom took the series in wild new directions with Kirby’s excellent Mouthful Mode abilities. The game’s brilliant dilapidated surroundings and design aesthetic also made it a joy to stare at on the screen.

None of this charm was lost on the annual New York Game Awards critics. For the organization’s 2023 ceremony they bestowed Forgotten Kingdom with its Central Park Children’s Zoo Award. Although Forgotten Kingdom is truly an all-ages title, it’s still a game that kids can safely pop in and play, and thus deserving of the nod. Alas, not much else from Nintendo made the cut at this particular awards ceremony, but congrats to Kirby and the devs at HAL Laboratory for the win.
