Wii U is set to receive a new firmware update from Nintendo. Among a number of features, version 5.1.0 U adds the significant and new ability to transfer software and data from one Wii U to another. This feature would be especially useful for owners replacing a damaged unit or switching to a new console (for example, a special edition). Included in the file transfers will be user profiles, Nintendo Network IDs, saved data, and digital downloads.
Elsewhere in the update, the Wii U eShop menu can now be navigated by using a Wii Remote, Wii U Pro Controller, or Classic Controller. This marks a change from the previous arrangement where only the GamePad could be used. Other parts of the update simply improve system stability.
