Nintendo previously shed some light on the single-player portion of Splatoon during the recent Nintendo Direct, but more details have emerged thanks to the game’s new Twitter account.
A number of new characters have been revealed, including a mysterious squid guide who will help you out in the game’s Hero Mode and who seems to know about the plans of the evil Octopus Corps. Apparently, the other squids only live peaceful lives and know nothing about nefarious plots!
The Twitter page also revealed a Battery Catfish, which powers the world of Splatoon and which the Octopus Corps decide to steal. Naturally, it will be up to you to get the Catfish back!
Finally, the page also gives us a glimpse at a sponge block which will feature in the single-player portion of the game. This block swells up when hit by squid ink and shrinks with octopus ink. I can see this being a useful tool for solving puzzles!
Personally, I was already sold on the idea of Splatoon when I saw the multiplayer gameplay, but from what we’ve seen of the single-player so far, it seems like the final game will be much more fleshed out than it initially seemed.
What do you make of the new single-player details revealed?

Splatoon hits all my buttons. Somehow. I am not one for shooters, teams, or online play, with a few exceptions to each. This is all three but is one of my most eagerly awaited games. The solid-looking single player adventure just supports what I already knew – I’m downloading Splatoon the day it becomes available.
This. All of this. Except that I’ll get the physical copy, since I always get the physical copy. I too almost never play shooters, and even less than that online (the sole exception being a bit of Modern Warfare well after it came out), but I will be all over this game the instant it comes out.
