Puzzle & Dragons proved that mobile games could make the transition to more traditional gaming devices quite successfully, so it should come as little surprise that another mobile hit from Japan will be making its way to 3DS. Mobile developer Mixi has reveled that its hit game Monster Strike will be releasing in Japan in just a few months, on December 17.
Monster Strike is a hybrid of genres that mixes many familiar concepts, such as monster collecting, puzzle-based gameplay, and RPG elements. What makes Monster Strike different is that the core gameplay is based physics as gamers use the touchscreen to push their monsters around enemy and hazard filled arenas. This 3DS version is a little different in that it will be a tie in with the upcoming anime based on the property, along with support for StreetPass and multiplayer for up to four people. Also, buying the game at launch will net fans a collection of both physical and in game goodies.
Nothing has been said regarding a worldwide release of Monster Strike, though that might be related to the fact the mobile game hasn’t reached the same level of popularity in the rest of the world as it has in its home country. Then again, Puzzle & Dragons eventually made its way to the outside world, with a little help of a Mario crossover, and the anime could help raise awareness, so stay tuned to see whether or not those plans change.
