It’s a Kirby palooza this week, it seems, in anticipation of Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World launching on Thursday, 08.28.25. Besides fleshing out the remaining tracks for Forgotten Land in the Nintendo Music app, Nintendo will be highlighting the pink pugilist as the star of Maximus Cup 49 in Tetris 99. Here’s the announcement the company made on X:

The festivities kick off on 08.29.25 and end on 09.01.25. This is a Second Chance cup, meaning the themes on offer are ones that were previously offered. The three here are based on Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Kirby’s Dream Buffet, and Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe. Three rounds are devoted to each theme—here’s the breakdown:
- Round 1: Kirby and the Forgotten Land—08.29.25 (12 AM PST) – 08.30.25 (11:59 PM PST)
- Round 2: Kirby’s Dream Buffet—08.30.25 (12 AM PST) – 08.31.25 (11:59 PM PST)
- Round 3: Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe—09.01.25 (12 AM PST to 11:59 PM PST)
As has been the case from the beginning, those interested in participating will need to have an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription. From there, download Tetris 99 at no additional cost. Players normally must earn 100 event points in order to permanently unlock each theme for use beyond the Maximus Cup, but for these themes you’ll only need to net 20 points apiece. If you’re interested, definitely note down when the rounds will occur so you don’t miss out.
