The Pokémon anime is coming to something of a crossroads. After more than 20 years of adventures, series star Ash and his beloved Pikachu are apparently walking off into the sunset to make way for a new generation of the heroes. The anime will be continuing on but reimagined with a fresh-faced cast. This time around there will be two leads: a girl named Liko and a boy named Roy. You can get your first look at them in this trailer:
Alongside Liko and Roy are fellow newcomers Friede, a boat captain and Pokémon professor, and Captain Pikachu. What, you didn’t think there would be a Pokémon anime without some version of everyone’s favorite electric mouse, did you? The series will make its bow on Japanese television on April 14 in a special hour-long episode. Beyond that, fans will just have to wait and see what this new show will be all about—as well as whether or not it can carry on without Ash and company for any significant amount of time.
