Final Fantasy Resonance Finally Brings HD-2D to the Series

There are multiple Square Enix games and properties that have gotten games featuring the company’s signature HD-2D visual style, but of all the franchises Final Fantasy hasn’t been one of them. The brand seems like a shoe in for it, but after many years of waitings, Square Enix is finally ready to give fans an adventure with this unique look. Take a peek at Final Fantasy Resonance:

So, what is Final Fantasy Resonance all about? It’s an RPG meant to evoke the glory days of Final Fantasy. Turn-based battles, airships, and chocobo mounts can all be found here. What’s more, however, is the ability to summon classic Final Fantasy characters like Cloud (which the game calls “visions”) into battle. If there’s any caveat to be had here, the core of Resonance seems to be built around a mobile gacha game called Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. While this certainly looks like a souped up version of Brave Exvius (and maybe one or two other of the various Final Fantasy mobile titles from years past), it might be worth considering as you weigh giving Final Fantasy Resonance a download when it comes to Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on October 22, 2026.
