Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom was already planned for release on Switch, but the plan was originally a digital-only release. FDG Entertainment has now announced that they’ve teamed up with Sega to bring both digital and physical copies of the game to Switch when it launches this summer.
In a recent tweet, they confirmed that the physical and digital releases will happen at the same time, with no delay for the physical edition:
It’s happening! We’ve teamed up with @Sega to release Monster Boy for #NintendoSwitch on physical cartridge, shipping to all retail partners in North America later This Summer! No delays, it will sim-ship digital and physical on the same day. #MonsterBoyGame #WonderBoy pic.twitter.com/hIgVOSkngb

Given that Monster Boy is seen as the spiritual successor to the Wonder Boy series, which Sega owns the rights to, it’s not surprising that Sega would agree to help publish the physical release of the upcoming Monster Boy game — especially since the third iteration in the Wonder Boy series was rebooted on Switch.
Of course, physical copies of Monster Boy are confirmed only for North America so far and it remains to be seen whether Europe or Japan will only get digital releases.
