Koei Tecmo is making spring into spooky season next year. On March 12, 2026, Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE will officially launch on Nintendo Switch 2. The developer shared the news via this trailer:
This remake of the PlayStation 2 classic Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly is promising to take the game to the next level with enhanced visuals, controls, and more. Here’s how Koei Tecmo describes it:
The game has been completely remade—not only in graphics and sound, but also in gameplay systems and controls. The series’ signature system—repelling wraiths by photographing them with the Camera Obscura—returns in this title, allowing for a richer use of the Camera Obscura in both exploration and combat.
In addition, a new gameplay feature has been introduced in this title: the ability to hold hands with Mayu. This allows players to feel the sister’s bond more deeply throughout the story.
The game is being offered as a physical edition on Switch 2, but whether or not that means it’s on the cartridge or is a dreaded Game-Key Card is unknown. Once we learn more, we’ll let you all know.
