The Nintendo eShop is quickly becoming the place for independent games and developers. The latest example is Ex Oblivione, a Wii U-exclusive Adventure RPG courtesy of developer CthulhiGames. Inspired by the works of horror writer HP Lovecraft, the 2D adventure title is sure to interest Cthulhu fans.
While Eternal Darkness certainly borrowed a page or two from the works of Lovecraft, Ex Oblivione looks to take that one step further. In the game, players will actually take on the role of the famed author, as a playable character. Joining Lovecraft is another famous historical figure, Nikola Tesla, as well as a third, customizable mystery character. As players explore the world of Ex Oblivione, they’ll have to use each character’s unique abilities to progress. Lovecraft will be able to craft black magic spells, while Tesla will be able to create new inventions.
Additional information is scarce at this point. According to CthulhiGames, the title will draw inspiration from games like The Legend of Zelda and the aforementioned Eternal Darkness, blending adventure and horror elements. The title will also boast local and online multiplayer options and a fully interactive open world. Sounds like this might be one to keep an eye on.
