It wasn’t that long ago that things looked for Level-5. In 2020 reports were swirling that the North American offices of Level-5 were a veritable ghost town being run by a skeleton crew. It seemed doubtful that the company would be releasing any more games outside of Japan. Which was a shame, given Level-5 has created some really wonderful games over the years from Professor Layton to Yo-Kai Watch to Ni No Kuni and much more besides. Well, it seems the ship is starting to right itself as Level-5 has announced a number of projects that are destined for Western shores in the near future.
Along with Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, the delightful looking turn-based RPG DECAPOLICE is also on the way to Nintendo Switch. Announced during the last Nintendo Direct broadcast, during yesterday’s Level-5 Vision showcase even more of the game was shown off. Take a look:
The game casts players as the Special Investigation Unit’s leader Harvard Marks. In DECAPOLICE, the cops can explore the DECSIM, a virtual world used to solve real-world crimes. The visual style is a real standout here, with gorgeous cel-shaded characters in an elaborate cityscape. There’s no firm launch date for DECAPOLICE, but it is expected to come out this year. Hopefully Level-5 is returning to the heights of its past successes and will become a force once again both inside of and outside of Japan.
