Nintendo has once again released it’s list of free downloads for Club Nintendo members, and the list for August includes a couple of neat surprises! The number of available games has risen from four to eight, and one of those titles just so happens to be one of the best games on Nintendo 64! Without further ado, here’s what Nintendo has up for grabs this month!

  • Dr. Mario Express for 3DS eShop: 200 Coins
  • Excitebike for Wii U Virtual Console: 200 Coins
  • Mario Golf (GBC) for 3DS Virtual Console: 200 Coins
  • Nintendo Baseball for 3DS Virtual Console: 150 Coins
  • Puzzle League Express for 3DS eShop: 200 Coins
  • Star Fox 64 for Wii/Wii U Virtual Console: 250 Coins
  • Super Mario Bros. 2 for Wii U Virtual Console: 200 Coins
  • Vegas Stakes for Wii/Wii U Virtual Console: 250 Coins

The titles are available from now until September 7. This month’s highlight is quite easily Star Fox 64. While a handful of games featuring Fox McCloud have been released since that game made its debut back in 1998, Star Fox 64 is still quite easily the best. Of course, Super Mario Bros. 2 is certainly just as well regarded. With the Game Boy Advance version potentially on the way to Wii U at some point, however, fans might want to think twice about whether or not they want to part with their coins on the original NES version. As usual, Nintendojo would like to point out that Star Fox 64 and Vegas Stakes can only be accessed from the Wii menu, and will require players to own a classic controller.

Some strong Wii U reward offerings, but I’m going to have to continue to pass on games I want until we get a proper port.

The increased selection of games appears to indicate Club Nintendo is headed to a “digital only” future.

While I love games, I also loved getting exclusive items I couldn’t buy anywhere else…

Oh well. I’ll always have my “Game & Watch:Ball” and my Luigi’s Mansion figure….
