While Nintendo TVii is no longer coming to Wii U in Europe, Nintendo continues to bring media services to the console, with UK owners now having access to a Wii U version of the BBC’s iPlayer.
The BBC previously stated back in January of last year that it was working on bringing the service to Wii U, but there had been no word on the subject since then. Now, without warning or fanfare, it is available to download from the eShop!
The download consists of 94 MB and grants users access to a wide variety of BBC programming. As with similar services, it allows for off-TV viewing on the GamePad and supports HD playback. iPlayer now sits alongside Netflix and Prime Instant Video, providing UK gamers with three different ways to watch shows and films (or four, if you count YouTube).
While it’s been a long time coming, it at least means that we Brits can console ourselves with some EastEnders, while gamers in America enjoy the Humble Nindie Bundle. Sigh…
