2. Link and Samus in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

Mario RPG Link and Samus Screens

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is my favorite Nintendo game of all time and these two minor cameos are among the most special. In Rose Town and the Mushroom Kingdom respectively lie Link and Samus at certain moments in the epic title. Both appearances add more humor to the RPG as they lie under the covers in ultimate comfort. Link has certainly done quite enough to deserve some rest and the same can obviously be said for Samus.

Oddly enough, when I first played this game as a kid and I came across these fan favorites, I hardly took any notice. I knew very little about Link until Christmas 1998 and my first Metroid game was Metroid Prime in 2002. I only knew Samus from Smash Bros. Looking back I can appreciate them more, especially Link. One can just imagine how cool it’d be to have both characters fight alongside Mario in a future RPG.

Star Fox … I miss you … you were so cool … Retro, please tell me that’s what you have been working on with such fervor….

Maybe not quite a cameo, but I loved seeing E Gadd’s inventions play a role in Super Mario Sunshine. At one point, Bowser Junior refers to him as “the strange old man with the white coat”. Plus, FLUDD kinda sounds like the ole professor.
