6. Geno in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga

Superstar Saga Geno Screen

Oh Geno, how I miss thee. After beaming back up to Star Road in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, the blue wooden doll makes just one more appearance in the Nintendo universe outside of Mario RPG‘s Virtual Console re-release. Way back in 2003, Geno had a small cameo in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga on Game Boy Advance. What was probably just a replica of Geno, he ran the Star ‘Stache Smash game in Little Fungitown.

Geno’s presence alone got him on this list, and although the crusade to get him into Super Smash Bros. Brawl failed, hope lies in any and all future Mario RPGs and the upcoming Smash Bros. titles for 3DS and Wii U. Superstar Saga is the third Mario RPG after the original and Paper Mario. If you have not played this GBA hit, I highly recommend it to anyone with a DS Lite, DS or GBA.

Star Fox … I miss you … you were so cool … Retro, please tell me that’s what you have been working on with such fervor….

Maybe not quite a cameo, but I loved seeing E Gadd’s inventions play a role in Super Mario Sunshine. At one point, Bowser Junior refers to him as “the strange old man with the white coat”. Plus, FLUDD kinda sounds like the ole professor.
