7) Luigi’s Mansion
Luigi’s solo outing as a GCN launch title remains one of Nintendo’s most endearing games. The 2001 title was a showcase of the power of GCN, with its liberal use of particle effects and realistic lighting demonstrating the muscle of the new console. While impressive from a technical standpoint, Luigi’s Mansion was also a wholly fun and creative game that asserted itself as something more than a Mario placeholder. An HD remake would allow Nintendo to further polish and push the game’s beautiful graphics, while also offering the chance to incorporate new play mechanics that could take advantage of the GamePad’s features. True dual analogue sticks, for instance, would be a marked improvement over the GCN’s stubby C-stick, while the touch screen could be used to scan for ghosts. Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is a fine example of how to bring the series to a handheld, but a re-release on Wii U could show its remaining potential on a home console.
