Astronaut Pikachu kind of sounds like an oxymoron, but, somehow, it’s a real thing… well, as real as shooting a stuffed animal into space can make anything a so-called astronaut. Such is the case for the plush Astronaut Pikachu, the end result of a new collaboration between The Pokémon Company International and the European Space Agency (ESA). In a video, French astronaut Sophie Adenot discussed living in space for two weeks with her special Pokémon pal. You can see for yourself in the video below:
Their journey went from April 11 to June 27, 2026, with Adenot snapping various photos of Astronaut Pikachu floating around the cabin (and accomplishing little, just what are those plush hands supposed to even do, honestly). All of this is, naturally, leading to exclusive merchandise that scurrilous scalpers will try to rip you off for in an effort to raise awareness about space, space travel, and so on. All of this will coincide with World Space Week, which is October 4 to October 11, 2026. During that time, Pokémon GO will also be offering fans a chance to get ahold of a special Astronaut Pikachu to add to their rosters:

A new costumed Pokémon will appear during this event! You might find one in raids or in Timed Research. Astronaut Pikachu**If you’re lucky, you may encounter a Shiny one!
