Dragon Quest Day was today, and a number of interesting announcements were made during the special 40th anniversary livestream. Among them was word that Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition is being released yet again—this time for Nintendo Switch 2. Take a look at the game running on Nintendo’s latest hybrid console, below:
If you’re thinking, “wait a minute, isn’t this already available on Switch?” the answer is, yes, it is. This Nintendo Switch 2 edition (and thank you Square Enix for not throwing that into the title!) is the same game but with one, small difference: a performance mode option where players can prioritize performance versus graphics. There are some items players can look forward to, as well:
- Super special item sets!
- The Trodain Set (containing equipment that can change the hero’s appearance)
- The Baby Boar Set (containing equipment that can change Veronica’s appearance)
- The Happy Adventurer Set (containing five bottles of pep pop and five seeds of skill)
There’s one caveat here that might disappoint those who already own Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition on Switch 1, which is that there is upgrade pack to purchase to enjoy the Switch 2 performance enhancements on the way. You’lll have to buy the Switch 2 version of Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition separately. However, while that kind of stinks, if you’d like to buy the Switch 1 version for a whopping 50 percent off, you can head to the eShop and get it right now for 20 bucks. Nice.
